KIND: Angela’s Story

In the summer of 2014 a child immigrant crisis on our country’s southern border reached its nadir. Fleeing violence in Central America, tens of thousands of unaccompanied children fled to the borders of Texas and Arizona, where they were crowded into temporary shelters and detention centers before facing deportation proceedings that threatened to send them back to the danger of their native countries.

ART NOT WAR suggested that MoveOn ask its members to make an emergency donation to KIND—an organization providing legal defense for unaccompanied refugee and immigrant children in the United States. After MoveOn reached out, 5000 members donated over $100,000 to help more than 100 children like Angela Solaya.

Angela traveled 1200 miles to escape the violence of El Salvador, only to be detained at the Texas border. KIND successfully defended Angela against deportation proceedings and now she lives safely in Alexandria, VA with her mom and sister.
